Ready to welcome a little life into your home?

Our adoptable animals come from many different backgrounds, but all are looking for safety, compassion, and a second chance. Through foster care, medical treatment, and patience, we help prepare them for loving permanent homes.

By adopting, you are not only changing one life — you are also helping create space and resources for us to continue helping animals in need.

Foster-Resized

Finding the right match is incredibly important to us. Every animal in our care has their own personality, history, and needs, and we want each adoption to be a safe, loving, and lasting fit for both the animal and the adopter.

Little Lives Animal Rescue is a foster-based, volunteer-run organization, not a physical shelter facility. Our animals live in foster homes, and meet-and-greets are scheduled by appointment after the application process. Because our small team manages all aspects of rescue operations, fostering, medical care, and adoptions, response times may vary depending on application volume and foster availability.

Before applying, we encourage you to explore our New Pet Guardian Resources covering introductions, nutrition, behavior, and responsible pet care..

Submitting an application does not guarantee adoption, and animals may occasionally become unavailable before the review process is completed. In those situations, we are always happy to suggest other animals that may be a great fit for your home and lifestyle..

If you feel ready to welcome a little life into your home, we invite you to complete an adoption application below.

FAQS

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you located and do you adopt out of state?

Little Lives Animal Rescue is based in the Atlanta metro area, with most foster homes located throughout Fulton and DeKalb County. Most adoptions take place within Georgia or nearby surrounding areas.

For adopters located farther away, placements may occasionally be considered on a case-by-case basis, but adopters must be willing to meet in person and safely transport the animal home themselves. We do not ship animals in cargo under any circumstances.

How are adoption matches made?

We carefully review applications to help ensure the best possible fit for both the animal and the adopter based on personality, lifestyle, energy level, and household environment. If the animal you applied for is no longer available by the time your application is reviewed, we are always happy to suggest other animals that may be a great match for your home.

Why are kittens adopted in pairs or into homes with other cats?

Our kittens are raised in foster homes alongside siblings or other young cats, and we require young kittens to be adopted in pairs or into homes with another young, playful cat. Having a feline companion helps kittens learn social skills, stay mentally stimulated, and adjust more successfully to their new environment.

We encourage adopters to learn more about Single Kitten Syndrome and the benefits of kitten companionship through the National Kitten Coalition.

How long does the adoption process take?

Because we are a volunteer-run rescue managing all aspects of rescue operations, fostering, medical care, and adoptions, timelines may vary depending on application volume and foster availability. We do our best to review applications at least once per week, and often sooner, with most application reviews taking place during weekends.

What if the adoption is not the right fit?

We understand that not every placement works out exactly as expected, and we encourage adopters to reach out to us if challenges arise. We are always happy to offer guidance, resources, and support to help both the adopter and the animal adjust successfully.

If an adoption ultimately is not the right fit, we ask that adopted animals never be abandoned, rehomed online, or surrendered to a shelter without contacting us first. As space and resources allow, we will always do our best to help determine the safest and most appropriate next steps for the animal.

Helpful Resources for New Adopters

Bringing home a new pet is exciting, but transitions take time. These trusted resources can help you prepare, introduce pets safely, and support your new companion’s health and behavior.

Settling Into a New Home

Start slow, create a safe room, and give your new pet time to decompress before expecting them to feel fully comfortable.

Introducing Resident Pets

Slow, structured introductions are one of the best ways to prevent stress and conflict between animals.

Enrichment, Behavior, Litter Box basics

Enrichment is just as important as nutrition. Food puzzles and slow feeders are excellent tools for keeping cats mentally stimulated, engaged, and active while helping prevent boredom and overeating. Many cats thrive when given opportunities to “hunt” and work for part of their meals.

Nutrition & Health

Nutrition plays a major role in a cat’s long-term health, and in general, we strongly encourage feeding primarily wet food whenever possible. Cats naturally have a low thirst drive and are designed to get much of their hydration from food. Diets consisting mainly of dry food may contribute to chronic dehydration and are associated with increased risk of urinary and kidney issues in some cats. Wet food also tends to be lower in carbohydrates and can help support healthier weight management. . For these reasons, many veterinarians now recommend feeding primarily or exclusively wet food whenever possible.

We also encourage offering a variety of flavors and brands over time rather than feeding only a single food for years. Cats that are exposed to different textures and proteins tend to adapt more easily if they ever require a prescription or specialized veterinary diet later in life.

When choosing food, ingredient quality matters. We recommend looking for foods with clearly identified meat ingredients and avoiding foods heavily based on fillers such as corn, wheat, soy, and meat by-products. In general, the more animal-based protein in the first ingredients, the better.
